Just have to throw in here---
I had baby #3 in a birthing center, and we left 8 hrs after birth. They
told me to look for one pee diaper within the first 30 hrs, or else call.
Stephanie latched on and nursed *like crazy* , hardly coming up for air,
during this whole time, and yet no pee! Not until about 33 hrs.... which
made me sweat! And then all that non-stop nursing brought my milk in by
36 hrs, and the issue was moot. I feel strongly that assessments need to
include general observations of baby's health and nursing, coupled with
info on feeding frequency, duration, and condition of mom's breasts. If
everything else truly looks good, you can probably buy a little more
time. If not, then intervention may be appropriate. HOwever, I suppose
that we must also factor in the fact that we sometimes are seeing some
truly delayed lactogenesis, possibly due to labor drugs and practices.
What fun! I want to trust nature, but when we interfere with it.....
