I've known many breastfed babies who gained very quickly in the first few 
weeks and months - babies who easily tripled their birthweights by three 
months or so. It often seems to run in families - I know one mother who had 
four children who all followed this same pattern. Typically, by the time 
these babies are six months or so, the weight gain slows down considerably, 
and once they become mobile they begin slimming down.
