Marilee: Even PCB's have been studied with no adverse effects (possibly
even better developmental outcomes) in breastfed babies. Of course, we
should caution mothers to avoid eating fish from contaminated sources (the
governor's unwillingness to do so on the basis of decreased tourism seems
to be putting financial gain above the welfare of his citizens, IMO), and
they should be advised not to go on crash diets while bf (this mobilizes
more of the stored fat-soluble toxins), etc. BUT THEY SHOULD BREASTFEED!
Otherwise, we're essentially telling more mothers, on the basis of
unproven risks of toxins in their milk, to further add to the
environmental load by artificially feeding. Where will it end? Alicia.
