The hospital that i work does education regarding period of purple crying. The purpose of it is not to tell parents to allow their babies to cry it is really directed at decreasing shaken baby syndrome or other preventable harm. It informs parents that when they have done everything that they can do to help and if they start to get frustarated the best thing to do is to put the baby in a safe place and walk away. As a pediatric nurse for 8 years I have seem my fair share of shaken baby syndrome and abuse and when the person who did it finally admits to it the reasoning was because the child was crying and they become frustarated.
