I have seen the manual and recently barttery versions of this pump
(First Years) and it is the weirdest thing I have ever seen! A bar
connects the two flanges and hom holds a handle between the flanges
to either squeeze for manual or operate a switch for battery use.
Flanges can be turned supposedly to fit each breast, but the couple
times mom has presented with one, it was very difficult to get them
as well placed as you can with separate flanges. The soft flange is
the only positive element I saw in it. It appears someone was
making a valiant attempt to find a way to double pump one-handedly,
but in my opinion they missed the target by a wide margin! Most
recent contact with it was a mom who brought one to the hospital,
had baby in NICU and nurse was trying to help her use it. Both mom
and the nurse were having a very hard time trying to figure out how
to manage it. I tried myself with no more success, suggested she
use the hospital pump at least while she was here and then decide
whether to try the FY again or rent if baby was still not able to
nurse. She immediately liked the hospital one better. Baby was
able to nurse and go home with mom, so there was no need for further
pumping at that time. I suspect if she needs one later she will opt
for the rental or will buy one that's more practical!
