Hi,

Well, yes the APP statement is great...but I will once again have draw backs
at the hospital where I work! I have been trying for about a year and a half
to stop everyone from limiting baby's time at the breast. The common law
there was 20 minutes each breast, not more, not less, and always switch at
exactly 20 minutes. And, oh boy, what if baby did not feed the entire 20
minutes at each breast? Nurse and mom were in a panic...So I spent many
hours of in-services and work with moms explaining that baby could feed the
lenght of time he required, could spend more time on one breast then the
other (always let baby finish the first breast before offering the other)
and accept the possibility that baby will sometimes be more hungry and at
other times be less...All in all be flexible.

I am sure I will be attacked with the APP statement when I return to work
(on sick leave right now), and I will now have to fight the 10 to 15 minutes
from the statement as it will be taken out of context and applied to justify
what they want to beleive in. The "usually" will certainly be forgotten!

Why is Breastfeeding always such a fight for those who promote, support and
teach it???
