I looked up "diagnosis" in my medical dictionary. I can't see where it
would support your stance here.

If you're certain that the advice you are giving is within your scope of
practice, you need to be armed with a statement published by ANA and/or
your state nursing organization that defines exactly what your scope of
practice is.

The particular situation that he has brought up is telling the mother that
her baby may be showing signs of refux, give her things to try, but tell
her that she may want to check with her Pediatrician.  We know that this is
within our scope of practice, but we need definitive documentation to
present, as he is writing a letter to the Board of Directors of the
hospital.

Anyone that can direct us to documented resources, it would be greatly
