If the mother's depression was controlled with Prozac before her pregnancy,
it would make sense to continue the same medication during her pregnancy,
and then also during breastfeeding (while monitoring for possible side
effects during nursing).
What I am saying is that it is better to have the mother take a drug that is
more suited to controlling her depression rather than more suited to
breastfeeding, as long as the drug is not causing any side effects in the
breastfed infant. This drug appears to be considered safe in pregnancy
because there have been no adverse effects reported on the fetus.
To me it comes down to that it is better to have a live mother taking Prozac
breastfeeding her baby than a mother who has committed suicide and not
breastfeeding her baby.
