I just received a response from Good Housekeeping regarding my letter about
the Bright Beginnings ad with Brooke Shields. It was a bit depressing to
read.I quote as follows:
   Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We are sorry you  were
disappointed to find an advertisement for Bright Beginnings infant formula in teh
December issue of the magazine. While we agree breast feeding is best, we also
realize that some Moms can't /won't breast feed. In accepting advertising for
Infant Formula, we rely on the FDA's approval of this category of products.
Since this Agency has decided to approve the addition of DHA/ARA to infant
formula, we had no basis on which to decline acceptance of this advertising. Please
be assured, however, your comments will be passed along to the Publisher,
Patricia Halegele, who is responsible for advertising in the magazine., Suzanne
Williams, consumer &reader services.
   Sigh. I did write a response about the approval method but please feel
