I was amazed to read this comment from Rachael as I just spoke to a mom on
Wednesday that asked me the same question. The mom I counseled was c/o very
engorged breasts (baby 6 days old), baby unable to latch on to nipples
flattened by engorgement. She had resorted to formula after pumping for 1
1/2 hours straight and getting only 1/2 oz milk. (inferior pump) I
suggested she pump briefly to relieve engorgement of nipples, feed baby, and
then pump after for up to 15-20 minutes). Because the mom had been unable
to get much pumped milk, she was giving formula and wondered if going back
to breastmilk would "tear up the baby's stomach" in her words. She didn't
relate where this information came from.

Must be another new trend.
