Hello all,

Wanted to share with you. I received a 1951 edition of Parents'
Magazine, Baby Care Manual. There was an ad for the "Anti-Colic"
Nurser, which is a bottle. I have not read through it yet, but there
is one article titled, "How to handle Eating." It says, "Self-
regulation is the new term for a comfortable sort of collaboration
which encourages new mothers to follow their babies' lead in
determining their own best times for eating and sleeping...It takes
awhile for a new baby to get used to nursing. Be gentle and quiet
with him while he learns...Children love to explore the food they
eat...."

There is another article, "I Nursed my Baby." " A mother who
succeeded in breast-feeding her second baby for nine happy months
tells how she overcame sore nipples and other nursing difficulties
and maintained her full milk supply until time to wean..." There is
a picture of a nurse bringing a baby to a mom in a hospital with the
caption: "A hungry baby is brought to his mother. With their nursing
relationship well begun, they can look forward to many satisfying,
relaxed hours together...."
