When I first read our paper this morning, I did not see that comma
between infant formula and improved infant survival. I interpreted that
infant formula improved infant survival and career opportunities for
women. I thought "wait just a minute here."
Then I read more carefully and saw that they meant before infant formula
and improved infant survival , yada yada ....
I bet if I was confused that other people were too and I bet there is
alot of misinterpretation among people who don't "know better". And I
bet that some local news papers left that comma out. I think it was
poorly reported and am half wondering if it was purposeful. It would
have made the point clearer to say "A century ago- before improved
infant survival, infant formula, and career opportunities for
women......."
