When I read this report, all I could think of was the following.: )
When I worked in an Inner-city Baltimore hospital, we had an increasing
number of Hispanic mothers. The largest percent of these moms were those
who said "no milk" and did not put baby to breast until milk came in,
feeding formula until then; a smaller number would nurse first then
formula feed, and only a tiny percentage would exclusively breastfeed
before milk came in. (Most of these women did then breastfeed only, some
id continue some supplemental formula.)
This seems to extremely common among Hispanic mothers in the US.
Since early exposure to bovine protein is associated with increased risk
of diabetes, we sure need to get the word out to Hispanic women and all
hcp's on this!
