Valerie McClain's explanation of why she doesn't post on LN has been
presented through another subscriber. I am not going to give the
listmothers' account of the sequence of the events she mentions; suffice it
to say they diverge on a couple of points.

Anyone who cares to see what led up to the decision about review status can
do a search for Valerie's most recent posts in the archives. Putting a
subscriber on review status is not a move the listmothers make often, and
never hastily. It is without a doubt the least fun and most time-consuming
of any of the tasks we do as volunteers to keep this list up and running.

Anyone who is on review status and doesn't like it, can use another
subscriber to do their posting for them, because the review command only
works in relation to posts sent to the listserv from the subscriber who is
on review. Anyone who is not on review can forward posts to the list for
others, as was done in this case. Being on review means that your posts do
not go directly to the list, but are read by the listmothers before being
approved, or not, for posting.

Since last year, the listmothers have on several occasions facilitated
correspondence directly between Valerie and other subscribers who have
sought to contact her. We have never declined to do so when asked.

For the record, being set to review status and unsubscribing are not
mutually exclusive alternatives which are presented to subscribers to choose
from. If you are on review, you can always unsubscribe, but whenever you
resubscribe, you would still be on review if you re-subscribed from the same
address, until such time as the listmothers found it appropriate to change
your status back to regular.
