I have worked with some babies who were dxed with colitis while
breastfeeding. In every case, the mothers were drinking LOTS of milk and/or
the babies were also getting formula!  When the formula was removed AND the
mother stopped drinking milk, the amount of blood in the stool reduced
dramatically, but did not always stop  immediately.  In addition,
hemoglobin remained within normal limits if exclusively breastfeeding, even
with occult blood loss.

Taking baby OFF BREAST is NOT the wisest approach.
