i heard dr. hale state at a conference that not only was demerol a "bad" drug
(the metabolites formed stay in the baby for such a long time and cause just
the effects noted) but that there wasn't any reason for it to even be
marketed!

it was mentioned a while back in a post, and i am sorry to have to even be
reminded, but the makers of domperidone (motilium), janssen, have withdrawn
their bid to have it approved in the us. i persevere, although its not every
mother who will take it, and the cost is a problem (but hey, if breastfeeding
is valuable, then it is CHEAP), but i do see much better results with
domperidone than with reglan, and only suggest a mother use reglan if money
is indeed such a big issue that she would choose the reglan instead. of
course in my area there is a wide variety of responses from doctors, from
"sure i'll prescribe it" to "oh, i can't i'll lose my license if i do that"
and "you don't want to take that drug, its like thalidomide, you just don't
know WHAT it could do to your baby." in other words, the usual range from the
sublime to the ridiculous (to the malevolent and malicious).
