IV mag does cross into breast milk, and is ingested by
a BFing infant. ***However, the small amount the
infant receives presents a lower risk to the infant,
both long and short term, than the introduction of
artificial infant milk feeds!***

My concern in this scenario would also be for the mom.
If her BP is high, or if she is suffering HELLP
syndrome, or persistent symptoms of pre-eclampsia, if
she is physiologically unstable even with IV mag,
decreased stimulation, and lateral or prone
positioning, breastfeeding and/or pumping may need to
be deferred until her BP is at least within reasonable
limits.  Risk of maternal seizure or stroke (worst
cases) would not counterbalance the risks here!

If mom is too unstable for either direct BFing or
pumping, donor human milk would be an ideal food for
her baby, until mom (and her breasts <grin>) can take
over.

Oh, that high-risk OB stuff is popping up again...
