Dana, this is also my understanding and an IBCLE power point slide show is available for download states this as well on slide 38-- the 6 courses of continuing education (e.g BLS, occupational safety etc) *do not* require college credits, unlike the 8 courses required such as anatomy and physiology which do require 'for credit'. The former 6 courses are as they are described--continuing education units, not college credit.

The slideshow also has an interesting synopsis of how very many times the requirements have already significantly changed over the last few decades and more info addressing the rationale for changing them again.
