A long time ago I heard a quote about overweight BF babies - it was a dr,
but I can't remember who - he said a bf baby might be overweight but it
was all perfect tissue, because it all came from breastmilk. This
comforted me with my sumo babies. Over the years, I've observed that these
"fat" bf babies generally thin out and become typical toddlers.

I've used grandson Scott before as an example - 42 lbs at age 2 AND 3 AND
4! He just kept getting taller. Now a paranoid HCP would say he was FTT
because he really fell off the weight curve (several lines), BUT he went
from very over the graph to a more normal spot. At 16 Scott is average size
young man. Still has chubby cheeks, but looks just like his great
grandfather!

We've got to use common sense. If the baby's feeds are self regulated than
they are NORMAL. Tinkering with her diet won't do anything but screw up
the system. Leave her alone. If mom would like some pix to reassure her,
e-mail me privately. My newest bot fed grandbaby is 23 lbs at 6 1/2 mo.
Her dr isn't spazing. He's looking at everything, not one thing - weight.
Her bro weighed a little more at same age. Her dad (my bf baby) weighed 25
lbs at same age. He's a tall skinny person now.

My sil's babies were skinny BF babies (I used to envy her, easier to lug
around), her kids also grew up to be average adults. we need kids on both
ends of the scale to make that "average " mythical baby at the 50th
percentile. So much of adult size depends on future diet and inherited
body type. See what doing this long enough does? It gives you
perspective. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
