I work in a large pediatric practice. My appointments are scheduled for
60 minutes and that is barely enough time. When i'm not heavily booked
I usually take up to 90 minutes. Our practice is computerized so I can
do all of the charting in the room while visiting with the family.
However I sometimes find that to really connect with the family you have
to get your head out of your record keeping and just visit. Then I need
to spend another 10-15 minutes finishing my progress note and recreating
our visit. This can put me behind, or keep me late at the end of the day
if I have several visits to finish up. I just work mornings, five days
per week and am scheduled to see 4 babies per day. I don't think I
could keep up that pace for the whole day. The LC that started this
thread with the practice wanting the slots to be 45 minutes-wow! I would
have to have nurse support to gather vitals and history before I came in
the room and started my 45 minutes to make that work.
