"According to the website, this formula is USDA (United States Dairy Assn)
approved, not FDA approved Barb Berges BS, RN, IBCLC Rochester, New York"

To clarify the difference on FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and USDA
(United States Department of Agriculture) approval. USDA approves the
Horizon product as organic. FDA regulates standards of indentity for food
products including infant formula. When I first saw the Horizon infant
formula product advertised I questioned FDA as to whether the product met
standards. FDA removes products from the market place if they do not meet
established standards. (As a side- I remember that they removed a product
that was meant to be an infant supplement but product information implied
that it was an infant formula) FDA reported that the company does meet
standards of identity for infant formula along with Mead Johnson, Ross and
can not think of the final company name but they make everyone else's
formula. Yes technically, they do not approve a product or recommend a
product. They acsertain that the product meets criteria as defined by
regulations. As always, must be more careful with the subtleties of the
word approve.
