I teach bottlefeeding from a breastfeeding prospective.

Me, too. I emphasize that they should try to emulate bf as much as they
can, including frequent small feedings, take off shirt to feed, eye
contact, etc.

Shockingly, I went in to talk to a mom in our hospital with a septic
premie, very sick (baby has been moved to a bigger hospital) about getting
pumping started, and she had not decided yet whether to breastfeed. I told
her all about the immune benefits, etc., but she remained unperturbedly
unconvinced, very calm (in stark contrast to the usual high emotions of
moms in her position). Then an MD from the emergency room (a friend,
apparently) came in to talk to her, and was not at all committed to
breastfeeding, either. It was like a bad dream. I offered to loan her
Kathleen Huggin's 3rd edition Nursing Mother's Companion, which seemed to
interest her, so I ran and got it and left it with her.

Anyone else getting swamped with babies this week? We had 'em stacked up
in Labor and Delivery, waiting for moms to go home and make room today.
