Agree completely.  There is so much "art" to working with mother baby dyads
in addition to the "science".  I have worked with the same stated problem btw
mothers and babies in 10 different cases in a month but each is unique.  The
approach may be completely different depnding on all of the varibles of the
couples personality, body geometry, prior knowledge and beliefs etc.
Hopefully, we arrive at the same result:  satisfied breastfeeding baby and
mother.  But the road to get there is often so very different - and that's
the "art" part to me, assessing what mode will best work with this couple as
they strive to make their new relationship work.  For those of us in private
practice who get to spend more than just a few minutes with each client; do
you find ,as I do, that the majority of the time is spent not doing
breastfeeding skills but more just plain counseling?  I sure do, and find
that repoire created by those interactions is enormously helpful in creating
solutions - especially in difficult cases.  Just my .02 worth.
