Geoff,
 I think that  bottle feeding newborns has not been documented SAFE. Have
you seen babies in the ICU sputter,  turn blue ,and brady  while trying
to feed from a bottle.?
   Somewhere, there is documentation of infants oxygen saturation while
bottle feeding compared to breast feeding and they are much more stable
at the breast. Where is that  O Lacnetters?
  Any way  , it is a curious sight to see a newborn cup fed. They just
sort of lap it in a nice steady pace and can really down it quickly. It
works wonders to feed a baby until latching on problems are resolved.
  Ultra sound studies  would be really interesting.
