I had a contact from a mom who needs to take Ativan. Her daughter is 15
months old and nurses probably twice a day for about 5 minutes.

The mom wants to know if based on the info I gave her from the USPDI, 1996
edition, should she wean or not. Of course, I can't say. But does anyone
have other resources for info on Ativan that could give the mom a clearer idea
of what she can do?

The USPDI says, "lorazepam may be distributed into breastmilk" and "Since
neonates metabolize benzodiazepines more slowly than adults and accumulation
of the benzodiazepine and/or its metabolites may occur, use by nursing mothers
may cause sedation, and possibly feeding difficulties and weight loss in the
infant."

Thank you.
