Sorry, Wendey, picking up on another of your posts : )

But more than social, we have emotional and psychological...buried quite
deep, where even the mother can't see them.

It is very possible for mothers, even the ones who truly understand the
health issues, to choose behaviours that are damaging to their children's
health.

I can think of smoking and drug use.

You may say these behaviours are addictive. True. But many women choose not
to confront them as such, for complex reasons, often a whole mix of
social/emotional/psychological stuff.

This isn't 'choice' or 'informed choice'  in the way we usually mean it, of
course, because 'choosing' never takes place on a level playing field.
Ethicity, experience, personality, background, social position blah blah
blah.......it all has a role.

Just giving folks the facts and ensuring they understand them is never
going to be enough.

However, I agree it is an essential element.
