This is an issues that has perplexed me for years too! I have breastfed
4 children and GAINED weight while feeding all of them. However, I
gained very little while pregnant (about 6 kilos). I figure I am wired
backwards!

9 years ago while visiting Australia, I came across a newpaper item
about some research done in Europe that studied two groups of women with
similiar diets and similiar energy expenditure who were all
breastfeeding. From memory, a gene was identified that supported the
theory that some women are designed to NOT loose weight while
breastfeeding. I was at that time breastfeeding baby number 4 and
waiting patiently for the weight to come off! I wish I had tracked down
that piece of research.

My casual observation is that slim women get slimmer and heavier women
stay the same or get heavier. Either way - it ain't fair!!
