What they are concerned about is CMV. There was a atudy by Vochem a few
years ago that demonstrated that even when Moms have antibodies to CMV in
their milk, the VERY tiny ones 24-28 weeks, can get symptomatically ill from
CMV in Mom's milk. The simplistic approach is to freeze all milk (kills 99%
CMV). The better, but more expensive way to do it is to test all Moms who
deliver < 30 weeks for CMV, and only freeze the ones who are positive until
the infant's immune system is good enough to become infected without becoming
symptomatic/ill.
