I have actually seen these clouds here in Iowa.  Sometime they are referred to a mammocumulus.  They are usually associated with severe thunderstorms and severe weather.  I took a photo of some years ago that really looked like one and a half dozen giant grey eggs lined up in rows 3 x 6 and suspended from the sky.
