Good article from Austrilia, despite headline that makes you think otherwise.  Would be a nice counter-point to the "best for mom/best for baby" campaign.

It's World Breastfeeding Week and bravely I will set forth to cafes, shopping centres and parks to publicly suckle my baby. I know this is common these days, but apparently my son has reached an age - one! - where it is not considered cool. As a friend who is happily breastfeeding her four-month-old said, "at his age, it looks weird".

Mothers want to do the right thing, but aren't always being told what that is. At my early childhood centre, a mum in my new mother's group asked the nurse, "how long should I breastfeed for?" She was told; "Six months is recommended but after that it's up to you." It's no wonder that breastfeeding an older baby is still a social taboo when even health officials aren't up to date with guidelines. A doctor asked if I intended feeding for the "full six months". When I said I thought I'd go for longer he joked, "When will you stop? When he's in high school?"

We need a media campaign to educate all people, not just pregnant women. Community support will encourage the acceptance of long-term breastfeeding - and in public too - as normal.
