Hi Heather,

Anything that changes the pH of the gut changes the absorption of nutrients.  
Chocolate is an alkalai, so it likely changes the pH from what it would be if 
there was only breastmilk in the gut.  You'd have to check what the other 
ingredients are.

But is your real question:  If we have to put Ovaltine in the milk to get him to 
drink it, is it still worthwhile?  In my opinion:  Sure!  Even if the balance is a 
little off, it's a wonderful food and source of immune factors.  Please note, 
that's an opinion.  Someone else may have specific research for you.

On the other hand if you can keep the breastmilk in it's natural state, that'd 
probably be better.
