As a hospital-based lactation consultant I know that our patients are encouraged to report staff who don't wash their hands and, as an extension, wear gloves appropriately. (There are signs posted in patient rooms). The message they are getting is not that they are dirty, but that we care enough to protect them and their babies from any germs that we might otherwise expose them to.
