Jennifer, thank you for your post, every word.  Your
mother's reaction to learning more about breastfeeding
is poignant, and remniscent of my own mother's
reaction.

to find out that she didn't know breastfeeding was a
possibility for her.>>

I've often used the example of adoptive nursing myself
and found mothers with other challenges react warmly
to it.  I assume I'm also getting the word out about
adoptive nursing --  and the ways of milk -- in the
time honored way: mother-to-mother.  I do see mothers
nursing adopted babies (sometimes into toddlerhood) in
my mother support meetings.  An extraordinary message
is given about the importance of nursing, well beyond
the simple offering of milk.
