Dear Friends:
Anything is possible. As a hospital LC, I worked with a first time
mother who had had enormous reduction surgery 14 years prior to the birth,
including removal of both areolas. She wanted, and got, a spontaneous unmedicated
vaginal delivery in a hospital. (Many of the staff thought she was weird. Can
you believe it?)

She asked me about breastfeeding. I told her I had no idea what would
happen. I recommended non-stop skin-to-skin and letting the baby set the pace.
She took my advice!! (I got to see her twice at home in the first week for
follow-up, once as a mother-baby nurse and once as a LC). At one week, the baby
had gained weight!! Today this mother called; her baby is 16 months old,
and still nursing.

One never knows, do one? It is always worth it to aim for the best, with
follow-up, because there are no crystal balls in this business.
    warmly,
