Hi Kathy -

In response to the firefighter mother. YES! It is definitely possible,
just takes good planning! About 9 years ago, I worked with a couple who
were both firefighters on a 24 on/ 48 off schedule. Parents worked
different shifts. Mom pumped while on shift and Dad fed pumped milk with an
occasional visit to mom as was convenient. Mom nursed for about 1 - 2 years
as I recall. Last time Dad came by (he visited more than mom) he said that
they had 3 or 4 kids, all exclusively breastmilk fed for the first half of
the first year and complemented appropriately until weaning after the first
birthday.
