The baby has begun to refused the breast milk in the bottle, willingly takes
formula in the bottle.

Two thoughts, one is the baby would simply rather wait for the holistic
experience of mom and her delicious milk, rather than settle for the artificial
nipple and no mom. Who knows if babies do understand that getting mother's milk
not from the mother is truly a weird experience to be avoided if they are
able to make the choice. Another idea is that if the artificial nipples are
more than a few months old, they may have suffered wear and tear and the flow
rate changed from a nice slow, to a more overwhelming medium or fast. Formula
is chalkier and would remain a little slower, perhaps, while in comparison the
faster flowing mother's milk might not be perceived as too fast...

Just thoughts,
Peace,
