Sometimes football is temporarily useful for certain situations, too. =
But I always tell the mom "It's just for now because nobody breastfeeds a baby at the shopping mall this way. It's just too awkward."

I had to laugh when I read this-I breastfed my 1st at a restaurant when she was 6 weeks old in the football hold using our diaper bag for support! My 2 cents on holds: The cradle is fine when baby does what he/she is supposed to do. However, I think we need to show mom the cross-cradle w/instructions to try if they begin having sore nipples or are already having trouble latching. Then-yes, once baby is latched they can try easing into cradle hold. I think it is easier to get a better latch using the cross-cradle hold if baby doesn't naturally open wide. A lot of the babies I see in the outpt setting need the extra control that the cross-cradle gives mom.

Warmly-
