He may be the sort of baby who needs contact on his palate before he knows
that he needs to start sucking (quite common in my experience). Mum could
perhaps try a nipple shield as a temporary measure until he gets the idea
of what he needs to do. If he won't even come at that, you could try a more
gradual approach of the nipple shield on the finger with the tubing used to
finger feed, and then try the shield on the breast.
