I am sorry that I do not have any evidence to offer you, Tamara but I
suggest you try doing a pubmed search (or google scholar) using the
keywords, RSV, Pertussis, transmission and breastmilk/ breastfeeding. I
strongly suspect that the paed is misguided. (Perhaps he is thinking of
CMV?) I am thinking that your friend's friend might suggest that her paed
test the donor mother (as in bloods) for immunity to pertussis (and/or
vaccinate her). That way, the paed would be reassured and no harm is done
along the way (unless you count supporting a common misconception about the
unclean-ness of human milk). Another option would be to use the Pretoria
Pasturization Protocol (google it). Before giving the milk to the baby. It
is a hassle - but doing so (or promising to do so ;-)) might put the paed's
mind at ease. Might I also suggest that your friend's friend appeal to the
Dr's ego by suggesting that they write up the case study for publication in
a medical journal.

Incidentally, I had a lesson this week about what you in the US are up
against. My friend over there visited her doc with an exclusively bf 10
week old and was asked how many mls the baby was taking per feed. When the
mother answered that she had no idea as the baby was bf, the doc was visibly
stunned and kept repeating, 'Well, good for you!'. My friend said it was
like the doc had never ever seen an exclusively bf baby before.

Keep up the fight ...
