My understanding is that MRSA is not a contraindication to bf. Mother
should proceed as usual.

I believe the dr. is following mom's status so that if treatment of
some sort is needed, related to a staph infection,
the dr. will be aware of her MRSA activity. Same goes if the baby were
to become ill (very unlikely). And if
mother were to come down with mastitits, or endometritis, her hcps
should know that she is MRSA positive.

Remember, MRSA means methicillin resistant staph aureus. So it is the
usual staph germ that often causes
mastitis, but it is resistant to some of the usual treatments. Always
important to know. And for hospital
staff to take all precautions not to spread this germ to
immunocompromised patients (premies, for example).
