Hi there Dana and all,

Just wondering if the docs in your area aren't following the recommendations here...... http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/nutrition/infant-nourisson/index-eng.php Its a great document and quite recent too. The Canadian Pediatric Society has this statement http://www.cps.ca/en/documents/position/nutrition-healthy-term-infants-overview. All of the Statements from the Nutrition and Gastroenterology are here ww.cps.ca/en/documents/authors-auteurs/nutrition-and-gastroenterology-committee. The CPS Committee on Allergy has this statement regarding introduction of solids for vulnerable infants and there you'll see some discussion of introduction of solids between 4 and 6 m but the recommendations at the end of the Statement clearly say 'Breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months of life.' http://www.cps.ca/en/documents/position/dietary-exposures-and-allergy-prevention-in-hig.
In our area Public Health has this on their website http://ottawa.ca/en/introducing-solids - what does Public Health say in your area?

Not sure how these docs are missing these statements from the CPS and Health Canada.......

I would generally give parents the references from WHO, Health Canada, the CPS and the local health dept and see if that doesn't better support the idea that solids are best given 'around the middle of the first year' as LLL has always said!

Good luck!

beth
