It is kind of funny though- one of the "standard" pre op and post op meds
most patients recieve is Reglan IV....I have had very ill post op
breastfeeding moms almost claw the staffs eye's out by day 2 if someone
hasn't offered her the opportunity to pump or brought their baby in to
feed.
Recently, one of my mom's who was preparing to undergo surgery had the
legal department write in her "Advance Directive- Living Will" that if she
went into a coma or anything negitive happened post op that I was to be
contacted and her breasts were to be pumped to provide her baby milk until
she was either better or life support withdrawn! I know she was nervous
about the surgery ( which went very well) but she wanted ALL her bases
covered so that,in her words " I can still give my baby the best for as
long as I can". WOW!
Lisa
