Dear Friends:
To add to Valerie's post about the present Secretary of HHS, the
breastfeeding task force in Wisconsin tried 18 different times to get some mention of
breastfeeding in state education materials as one preventative measure against
diabetes. They were unsuccessful.
The dairy industry is HUGE in the US. For those Lactnetters in other
countries, the US is full of billboards and full page magazine advertising showing
celebreties with their "milk moustache" and recommending that everybody drink
lots of milk. The plastics industry has made a bottle that fits into cup
holders in cars, so that it will be more convenient for people to buy more milk to
drink.
Perhaps that is another reason, besides the formula industry, that there
is resistance to any mention of the link between cow's milk and diabetes? I
didn't think of that, until Valerie's informative post.
    warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
