Tommy G. Thompson, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services,
returned to Wisconsin for a college reunion. He was at one time Governor of
Wisconsin. I gather from the following news article that some Wisconsin folks
are not particularly impressed with his kind of politics. His position is a
political appointment and thus subject to the whimsy of politics. Wisconsin
is a dairy state. The dairy industry has an investment in the manufacture of
infant formula. His position also monitors the FDA. These governmental bodies
are members of the US Breastfeeding Committee.

"No one I know will be celebrating Thompson's appearance," noted John Peck,
executive director of Family Farm Defenders. "As governor he destroyed the
lives of thousands of WI family farmers - pushing the introduction of rBGH and
other genetically engineered foods, recruiting out-of-state factory farms with
taxpayer subsidies, and accepting huge payoffs from Philip Morris even as its
subsidiary, Kraft Foods, rigged dairy prices through the Green Bay Cheese
Exchange. His abuse of family farmers has only continued in Washington. The FDA is
supposedly under his control, yet he's done nothing to challenge Kraft's
illegal use of imported milk protein concentrate (MPC) in products like Singles and
Velveeta. A gutless corporate crony like Thompson deserves nothing more than a
big cow pie from the people of Wisconsin."
