Boy, it is tough when you realize the power of language, and want to be
accurate yet are also pushing a health or social agenda. As an example of
the fact that there is always something else to consider which makes life
more complicated:

First time mom with hx of 3 cosmetic breast surgeries. The first two failed
for various reasons and left lots of scar tissue, and the third was inserted
with periareolar placement functionally impairing the ducts. Mother is
older, wiser, sorry as hell, but no undoing the past. We tried and she
never delivered more that just a few drops. She is very health conscious,
sees all sorts of alternative nutritionists. They have all got the "right"
attitude about formula being a "dead" substance, and have communicated this
to my client. Their solution since she can't nurse: convince her that the
baby should be fed on a "live" substance not manufactured by evil
industrialists. She is now feeding a 4 week old undiluted, whole goat's
milk and carrot juice. So for those of us who are in priv. pract. and who
see a top heavy (sorry for the pum) population of women with often
unsolvable lactation problems, please: since donor human milk is not real
available, let's not make the safest alternative so politically incorrect
that we find ourselves in the ridiculous position I found myself in
yesterday as I was forced to defend formula.
