Dear Renee,

It sounds like this colleague is a sniper, and I would encourage you to not
get enmeshed with him. You don't need to defend facts and truth. The manager
or director of your unit should explain reality to him. Human milk for human
babies for the breastfeeding mothers delivering at your hospital is the
standard of care. These mothers being sabotaged or subjected to staff
personal opinions is not quality care. Rather than spend any time or
emotional energy dealing with this person one-on-one, I encourage you to
involve someone else who will back you in any discussion with him--a charge
nurse, manager/director, nurse practitioner or supportive pedi.

It's my cyber-armchair take that this isn't just about lactation. It is
about posturing, intimidating and bullying--possibly because he's a male in
a typically female dominated environment. YMMV.

Best wishes,

Anna Swisher, MBA, IBCLC
