I find that in reality very few moms boil the parts each time and I really
don't see the need anyway.... but to answer your question, I think it is the
steam dry part of the dishwasher that melts them, I tell moms who use Medela
pumps, to put the yellow valve and white membrane inside an old fashioned
tea ball before putting in the dishwasher and that way they wont lose them
to the bottom of the dishwasher where they surely will melt on the heating
coil.
