I give moms the new LLLI handout on Nipple Shields now. It is a tear off pad, 50 for $5.50. It lists why to use a nipple shield, why not, how to apply it properly and how to get off of it. Also the brand new Breastfeeding Answer Book has great up to date information on nipple shields. I tell them all the ideas you mentioned plus often deciding to just do without and not backing down. Getting into a warm bathtub with baby and wooing her back to the shieldless nipple is another idea.
