Esther and Lactnetters,
*Yes*, breastfeeding twins unilaterally has been done. The Brisbane case may be in the archives, and I suggest you check. The mother had previously delivered two singleton children and breastfed successfully on one side only for an unknown reason (the plumbing was obviously blocked or not intact, though no surgery). The other breast gave every sign of milk production and became engorged, but milk could not be extracted - a few drops, only, I think. Teh mother's 3rd pergnancy resulted in twins. As with the previous times, she dried up her problem breast. (Yes, the milk is reabsorbed, by the body.)
Don't worry about the hindmilk, as this builds up through the day and both babies will thrive without anyone having to worry about thsi issue. (Read carefully the paper in the June JHL by Cregan and Hartmann, and you will gain a better understanding of this.)
The twins, above, came to the evening breastfeeding seminar at which their mother spoke. They were plump and very active, about 8-10 months old, and a great advertisement for the success of unilateral breastfeeding of twins.
