I wanted to let everyone on Lactnet know about an opportunity for a
breastfeeding position at the American Academy of Pediatrics which has just
been developed.  The information on it is as follows:

TITLE:  Program Manager

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the director of the Division of
Community Health Services in the Department of Community Pediatrics

BASIC FUNCTIONS: (1) Manage and coordinate the activities of the American
Academy of Pediatrics (AAP),    Breastfeeding Promotion in Pediatric Office
Practices program; (2) staff the Work Group on Breastfeeding;  (3) assist
in the education of AAP members and others about the promotion of
breastfeeding and the care of breastfeeding infants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establish and implement a program that will encourage physicians and
staff employed in pediatric office settings to promote breastfeeding and
manage the care of breastfeeding infants.
2. Staff the AAP Work Group on Breastfeeding and other oversight committees
related to the AAP breastfeeding initiative.  Prepare agenda materials and
minutes; implement related activities.
3. Assist in the development and dissemination of resources and incentives
for pediatricians, including a support kit for providers, an assessment
tool, and materials that promote collaborative activities between
pediatricians and other health care professionals.
4. Provide ongoing support to, and coordinate activities of, AAP chapter
breastfeeding coordinators, including development and dissemination of a
quarterly newsletter.
5. Work with state Maternal and Child Health directors and Special
Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
breastfeeding coordinators and related national organizations to encourage
collaborative efforts at the state and local level.
6. Attend national meetings of pertinent organizations to foster
collaborative efforts on the promotion of breastfeeding.
7. Develop, support, and promote a network of experts willing to provide
technical assistance to AAP members and other health professionals.
8. Develop and implement a mechanism for providing technical assistance to
AAP members on the promotion of breastfeeding and the management of
breastfeeding infants.
9. Monitor operating budgets and assist in procuring funding for program
initiatives, as needed.
10. Prepare progress reports and internal reports as required by funding
sources or the AAP administration.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:  Graduate degree in health administration, nursing, public
health, or related field.       Certification as lactation consultant preferred.

EXPERIENCE:  Knowledge and experience with maternal and child health
initiatives, specifically       breastfeeding promotion, is essential.
Experience with grant writing, grants management,\publication development,
and community-based health planning preferred.  Management and medical
association experience also helpful.

ABILITIES:  Strong organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal
communication skills.  Ability to handle heavy workload, work
independently, and coordinate multiple projects.        Demonstrated proficiency
in word processing and familiarity with financial software packages (eg,
Excel) and electronic communication systems (e-mail and Internet).
